Any year or make of car or station wagon except
convertibles may be used. No jeeps, trucks or vans.
Safety belts are required.
All inside door panels, headliners, all carpeting, and
the rear seat must be removed.
All glass must be removed from the car, including
headlights, taillights, backup lights, turn signals, mirrors, windshields, side
and rear windows etc.
Original stock gas tanks must be removed or have the
bottom cut out. The gas tank must be placed in the rear seat area and securely
fastened. A maximum size tank of 6 gallons of gas will be allowed. Metal tanks
are preferred.
Any car spilling gas or catching on fire will be
automatically disqualified.
Radiators must be in original location if used. Stock
type radiators only.
Transmission coolers and electric fuel pumps will be
allowed.
Batteries must be removed from the original location
and securely fastened to the front floorboard. No more than 2 batteries will be
permitted. Batteries must be completely covered or enclosed.
Engine exhaust pipes may be modified.
Cutting fenders and bumpers for wheel clearance is
permitted.
Outside fender wheel wells cut for wheel clearance may
be bolted or welded back together, without the use of extra metal.
All decorative chrome must be removed including door
handles, door locks, mounting screws, clips, license plates etc.
All exterior fiberglass must be removed.
Hoods must have a hole cut near the carburetor large
enough to extinguish a fire. Cut out section may be rewelded or bolted.
Engine and transmission may be chained or welded in
place, only to secure their position, not to reinforce the car.
Number of leaf springs may not exceed stock towing
package. Individual leafs may not be replaced with longer leafs. Leafs may not
be welded to other leafs. A maximum of 8 leaf spring clips can be used. 2 in
front, and 2 behind the differential on each side. Clips must be similar in size
to stock if not stock.
Coil springs spacers will be allowed. If car has air
shocks, it may not be raised above standard height. No coil to leaf conversions.
Front suspension (including upper and lower A-Arms,
spindles, ball joints, and tie rods) must remain stock as originally equipped
for that body style.
All doors, trunk lids, or end-gates must be chained or
welded shut from the outside only. If the drivers door comes open during the
derby, the car is automatically disqualified. When welding the trunk or end gate
shut it may not be welded to the rear bumper.
No welding inside of the car, under the hood, engine
compartment, any body seams, frames, or bumper. Station wagons with rear storage
compartments may weld the lids shut with no more than 18" of total welding
per storage door or 2 bolts per storage door.
Stock bumper brackets may be welded to bumper and
frame, including telescoping bumper brackets. No other welding will be permitted
on frame or bumper. If brackets are not welded a short chain may be used to bolt
bumper to frame.
No pickup bumpers! Car bumpers only! Any GM bumper on
any GM. Any Ford bumper on any Ford. Any Chrysler bumper on any Chrysler (except
pre-1974 Chrysler Imperials shall remain the original style, and shall not be
modified by shortening, reshaping, or moving the brackets). No bumper shall have
any additional brackets. No bumper shall have any welding in excess of rule #22.
Back bumpers must remain original style.
Hoods can be chained or bolted (no larger than ¾
" bolts, or ½ " chain). Maximum of 4 bolts or chains. Hood bolts must
not be attached to the frame or bumper. If two pieces of angle iron are welded
on top of the hood and fender to bolt the hood, they cannot be longer than
8" or larger than 1½" by 1½" angle ¼" thick. If chains
are used, they may be single looped around bumper.
The drivers door must be reinforced. Reinforcement may
be on the outside, or inside, or both, but must not extend more than 10"
past the door seams.
All cars will be allowed to weld a bar from drivers
side door post to passenger side door post.
Two vertical bars must be installed in the windshield
opening for driver protection. More will be allowed if desired. Maximum of 5.
Roll bars are acceptable, but not necessary. If
installed they must be built for driver safety only and not to reinforce the
car. They can mount to: the roof; the floorboard; the door post crossbar; and
the drivers door, but must be at least one foot away from the passengers door,
and cannot be welded to the firewall.
The drivers door must be painted a contrasting color.
Only the exterior body of the car will be allowed to be
repainted. Do not paint the interior of the car, or the frame.
A number must be painted on both front doors and on top
of the car.
All cars must have working brakes before their heat
begins.
Rear end gears may be locked or welded. Any car rear
end may be used.
No studded tires or tire chains. Wheel weights must be
removed.
All trailer hitches must be completely removed.
Air conditioning units left on any car must be
discharged.
Body mount bolts may only be replaced with original OEM
size bolts.
When repairing damaged cars: Patch the hole, or cut
with no more material than absolutely necessary! No material stronger than what
you are repairing is to be used. Cracked or broken frame rails may be welded.
Repairs will be thoroughly checked to judges discretion.
CARS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE PIT AREA UNLESS ALL
BROKEN GLASS, LOOSE SCREWS, ETC. ARE REMOVED, INCLUDING THE INSIDE OF DOORS.
CARS SHOULD BE SWEPT OUT OR VACUUMED.
Cars will be thoroughly inspected. If we can’t see
into the trunk, you will be asked to cut an inspection hole. Pre-cut inspection
holes in the trunk lids may be welded or bolted. We may lift your car with a tow
truck to inspect the underside.
Cars must remain stock unless otherwise noted in the
rules. If it’s not in the rules, it does not mean you can do it. Call for
clarification.
